Swimming Holes & Beaches
Nothing beats cooling off in the Buffalo. From sandy beaches to quiet swimming holes, there are plenty of spots nearby to take a dip, skip rocks or spend the afternoon by the water.

Swimming Holes
- Tomahawk Creek – A local favorite swim hole on Tomahawk Slab Road just before the low water bridge. Privately owned but often enjoyed by friends and neighbors. Shallow, comfortable water that’s great for kids.
Beaches
- Gilbert Beach – A classic Buffalo River hangout. Find your spot on the gravel bar and watch floaters finish their day on the river, or walk downstream for a little more peace and quiet.
- Shine Eye Beach – A sandy beach with plenty of room for kids and pets to play. Parking is nearby, but the beach is vehicle-free. Turn east on Shine Eye Road just north of the Hwy. 65 bridge. Top Pick
- Sand Hole Beach – A quiet, vehicle-free beach below the Red Bluff overlook. Take Mercy Lane and continue straight onto Sand Hole Road (it can be a little bumpy).
