Nearby Attractions
- Ben’s Place (Gilbert) – Located next to the Gilbert General Store, this open-air pavilion hosts live music, food and adult beverages on summer weekends. A fun, laid-back way to spend an evening after a day on the river. Open weekends, Memorial Day through Labor Day.
- Kenda Drive-In (Marshall) – A classic old-school drive-in movie theater that’s perfect for families or groups. Summer shows can get busy, so plan to arrive early for a good spot.
- Buffalo National River Park Headquarters (Tyler Bend) – A great stop to learn more about America’s first National River. Exhibits, photos and park information offer a deeper look at the history and ecology of the Buffalo.
Easy Day Trips
- Leslie – A charming small town along Cove Creek and the Little Red River. Browse local artisan shops downtown, stop by Brick House Artisans, and enjoy a farm-to-table meal at the beloved Skylark Cafe.
- Blanchard Springs Caverns – One of the most impressive cave systems in the country and well worth the one-hour drive. Located near the music town of Mountain View, guided tours take you through massive underground rooms filled with stalactites, stalagmites and flowing cave streams.
- Ozark Folk Center State Park (Mountain View) – Part living-history museum, part music venue, the Ozark Folk Center celebrates traditional Ozark culture. Watch artisans craft pottery, blacksmith metal and weave textiles using historic techniques. In the evening, the park hosts live mountain music performances featuring regional musicians. Mountain View itself is known as the “Folk Music Capital of the World,” and it’s common to find musicians gathering around the courthouse square to play.
- Jasper – A scenic mountain town about 40 minutes upriver and one of the best gateways to the Buffalo National River. Surrounded by towering bluffs and winding roads, Jasper offers great local restaurants, outfitters and access to some of the most iconic views in the Ozarks, including nearby overlooks along Scenic Highway 7.
Worth the Drive
- Whitaker Point (Hawksbill Crag) – One of the most photographed spots in Arkansas. A moderate hike leads to the famous rock ledge that extends over the valley below. Expect incredible views and plenty of cameras.
- Arkansas Grand Canyon (Highway 7 Scenic Overlook) – Just south of Jasper along Scenic Highway 7, this overlook provides sweeping views of the Ozark Mountains. Stop at the overlook or grab a slice of pie at the historic Cliff House Inn nearby.
- Boxley Valley Elk Viewing – In the fall and winter months, this valley near Ponca is one of the best places in Arkansas to see wild elk. Early morning and dusk offer the best chances for sightings.
